As part of our “Inspiring Working Mums” series, Meahan Callaghan shares her advice to help other working Mums.
Meahan Callaghan: HR Director and Founder of BOB (Best of Breed) which creates podcasts about HR for HR people.
My best advice for your career is …
Know the value you provide and use it to negotiate well, don’t start by saying the hours you can work. I recently took on a role where I needed to negotiate flexibility in hours , I have promised them I will work very hard to deliver the high performing culture they are after and in return I need certain flexibility.
My most satisfying thing about being a Mum is …
Knowing my son is happy.
My best advice for managing the juggle of work and family is …
The juggle gets hard when it makes you feel guilty, guilty that you are not doing it all. I think you prioritise where you add the most value and outsource the rest as best you can. I realise no one really cares if they come for dinner and I have bought the dessert but my son really cares if I’m not watching karate intently on Saturday morning.
