My best advice for your career is …
Forgive yourself. We can all be our own harshest critic. The pressures of a dynamic, rewarding and exciting career can be challenging enough – so don’t make it unnecessarily worse! The only other thing I’d say is to set clear boundaries on your time to ensure you can be fully ‘present’ when at work and when at home. I find this helps me stay focussed and recharge!
My most satisfying thing about being a Mum is …
Being a parent is a life-changing experience. No words can truly describe the intensity and depth of emotion you have at different points in time – so enjoy the ride! The most satisfying thing for me has been watching our daughter come into her own. She is a remarkable young woman and I couldn’t be happier for her.
My best advice for managing the juggle of work and family is …
My best advice to manage the juggle is to do what works for you and your situation. Every family is different. For our family: we combine our personal and professional calendars, so we know what is coming up, and share ongoing chores, activities and commitments as much as possible. We also redistribute as needed when circumstances change. This supportive, adaptive flexibility and strong communication, along with a high level of organisation and planning ahead, keeps us on track – at least most of the time! We ensure our daughter is always in the loop and she takes part in most decisions on a day-to-day basis, so we are all on the same page.
